$6 Million Provincial Investment for Diamond Spring Lodge
February 13, 2017 – For Immediate Release:
Recently, the Board of Directors for Homeland Housing was very pleased to receive news from the Minister of Seniors and Housing, Lori Sigurdson, for the approval of adding 24 units to Diamond Spring Lodge, Redwater; equal to a provincial investment of $6 million.
As part of the Government of Alberta’s 2016 Capital Plan, the province committed $582 million, under the Sustainable Housing Renewal – Rural and Urban initiative, for capital projects to provide access to safe, appropriate and affordable housing options for families and individuals within Alberta over the next five years. As part of this provincial investment, Diamond Spring Lodge will be fully funded and owned by the Alberta Social Housing Corporation.
Dennis Magnusson, Executive Director of Homeland Housing, stated, “What makes this announcement special is that the cost will be 100% funded. Previously, the project was approved on an 80/20 cost-sharing basis with our Board of Directors. This approval means our Directors will no longer have to finance $1.2 million. This also means that the Town of Redwater will have access to additional lodge rooms faster, filling an important need for additional housing for seniors and others in need in this growing community.”
Ministry officials are working with our team to review the scope and details of this project. This review will be expedited, with a targeted start date on construction within the next year. A sprinkler system will be installed in the existing lodge in conjunction with this project, to ensure safety standards are maximized.
The Region served by Homeland Housing includes the City of St. Albert, Sturgeon County, Westlock County, and the Municipal District of Lesser Slave River. No. 124.
The vision of Homeland Housing is to be a provincially recognized leader in the provision of supportive living for seniors and community affordable housing. Progressive, innovative and customer-focused, Homeland Housing provides quality facilities, programs and services.
