Homeland Housing manages lodges, walk-up apartments, single storey apartments, high-rise apartments, fourplex units, and two-storey apartments to provide community affordable housing for 735 residents within 25 buildings.

The demand for supportive living and affordable housing options are a real concern and will continue to rise as our elderly population grows. Our population is living longer and with more unique needs.

To address supportive living and affordable housing needs, we are embarking on new capital projects. Our first project will be the expansion of one of two locations in St. Albert, being North Ridge Phase II. We plan to have this building completed in 2017. Fundraising is necessary to cover the costs of appliances, including stoves, fridges, microwaves, drapery, laundry equipment, and furnished lounge areas. The cost is equivalent to $5,000 per room x 42 rooms. A fundraising event was held in September 2016 and $12,600 was raised. We humbly thank our gracious supporters. However, we still need to raise more funds to cover these upcoming costs and are asking for your help.

In addition to this new capital project, we have a number of renovations, transportation needs, and additional programming options we are pursuing, but we can’t do it without much-needed funding and support. We thank you for supporting Homeland Housing.

Planned Giving

Future Support: Plan ahead with your estate to support the future growth and maintenance of Homeland Housing during and following your lifetime.

A planned gift is an option for many and allows you to leave a larger gift to Homeland Housing than you could from your current assets. Benefit seniors and others in need for years to come.

Examples include wills and living trusts, life insurance or retirement beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts and life estate in personal farm or residence. There are many ways to support Homeland Housing. We recommend exploring options with your accountant or financial advisor to create the best method for you.

Life Insurance: In the case of existing policies that you no longer need coverage for, consider assigning ownership to Homeland Housing. If Homeland Housing is both the owner and beneficiary, you receive an immediate tax deduction while making a generous gift at a low cost.

Bequest: Your will or trust can designate a specific amount to be transferred to Homeland Housing as a gift. This gift can take the form of cash, stocks, bonds, real estate, or any type of asset. The bequest allows you to give a gift, free of tax.

Living Trust: This is a good option to supplement a will for those who want to avoid the expense and time of probate. There are multiple types of trusts for different purposes.

Memorial Donations

A Memorial Donation may be made as a tribute to the memory of a resident, tenant, family member or friend. Some of our residences have the option of a memorial board with a minimum $100 donation. Leave a legacy for those you love. If you are interested in discussing the memorial board or other memorial donation ideas, please call 780-939-5116.
